Cracked Ice Gardenia is possibly Christopher Hanlon’s® most ambitious creation yet. This multi-layered and mesmerising perfume captures the essence of the Australian outback, opening with a sun-burst of hidden Citrus and Spice, Geelong Lemon, Cardamon and Sour Queensland Lime. Followed by its natural heart: White Frozen Gardenia, Lily of the Valley and Tuberose. Add a touch of Black Jasmine and Bush Mint. Now delicately infuse this concoction with subtle, intoxicating base notes like Australian Sandalwood, Peppercorn, Young Tobacco Leaf, a Wild Hemp Accord and Australian Fermented Amber. This exotic perfume is Invigorating... Complex + Delicious.
The name Cracked Ice Gardenia is inspired by the unique way the fragrance is artisanly made. Flowers are first frozen, then crushed and distilled. This process creates a hyper-realistic fragrance that is both delicate and powerful – like a cracked ice flower. Cracked Ice Gardenia is both a timeless and a modern masterpiece by Australia’s FIRST Perfumer®.
‘Gardenia is a classic perfumer’s note. The flower itself is so sublime I wanted to bottle the pure essence unadulterated. Alas, the subtle but striking extract rarely lasts on skin. Perhaps this is my fascination. I discovered freezing the petals before extracting creates a longer lasting fragrance. This technique is at the heart of this creation. My first impressions: Gardenia, Violet Leaves, Green Apple and Lemon. I then infused a single discord of Chinese Magnolia, Wild Hemp, Peppercorn and Madagascan Tonka Bean. If you’re searching for a new floral to add to your repertoire – you’re in luck. This is exquisite with subtle, irreverent spices – and it lingers.’

Christopher Hanlon® Perfume is formulated using a unique process called Méthode Électromagnétique Fermentation®. What does this mean? As such Christopher’s perfumes cannot be compared to conventional perfumes because notes have been fused displacing various accords and discords. The artist Christopher Hanlon® invented a new perfume genre, not based on traditional top, middle and base notes. Christopher adds: ‘I would estimate that 95% of perfumes today are retro in so far as they formulate using the classic 3 tiered hierachy of top, middle and base’. Hanlon’s® revolutionary process allows key base notes to be cancelled as softer notes are ironically amplified. Add to the equation botanical notes like Australian Bush Potato that have hitherto not been used in perfumery. The bizarre blending culminates in signature blends that are wholistic, pure and unique. Christopher Hanlon® invented the process in 1994 using crackpot methods at Paddington Markets which today have been scientifically perfected. Some call it the devotee's raison d'être. Others call it perfection.
His-Storical Note: Based out of Sydney and Geelong today, each fragrance is still weighed, mixed, fermented, macerated and hand filtered to carefully remove remnants of the botanicals by Christopher’s own hand. Artisan made has been a family tradition of the House of Hanlon® since the 1800s. This craft continues the Art of Hanlon's® perfume making into the future — a timeless take on his-story, bottled.
